Forgetting to drink enough fluid can be easy, especially if you don’t always feel thirsty! It’s important to remember that drinking water regularly, is
just as important in keeping us healthy, as eating and living well.
Did you know that up to 60% of adult body weight is made up of water1?
Did you know the recommended amount of fluid you should drink per day changes depending on whether you’re male or female,
your age and other factors such as physical activity levels? Although some people will need more, experts from the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA)
recommend that women should consume 2L whilst men should consume 2.5L of water from all sources, each day1.
Did you know it isn’t just plain water which contributes to your daily fluid intake? In general, water and other beverages account for around 80% of intakes and the
remaining 20% comes from food sources1. This is the equivalent of 2L for men (8 x 250ml glasses) and 1.6L for women (6 x 250ml glasses)2.
According to the Natural Hydration Council, the average Brit drinks just one glass or less of water a day!**
*EFSA reference values for water are based on water from all sources, which includes water from drinking water, beverages of all kind, and from food moisture.
